Litter Network Volunteers showing off their collective efforts after a Homebaked CLT group litter pick

Homebaked CLT is a proud and active member of the Anfield Litter Network. Members are powered by a shared mission of cleaning up the area. The Network provides equipment and support to local individuals, groups and businesses alike - combined with the encouragement to get out into the neighbourhood and do their bit in keeping the streets clean.

The collective efforts have received recognition from Keep Britain Tidy, noting the transformational impact the network is creating locally. Network members keep in touch via a Facebook Group and keep count of how many bags of litter collected. An impressive 627 bags have been collected in to date in 2025, and they are on track to smashing their 2024 bag total of 1008.

One way to get involved, is by participating in one of the group picks organised by network members. Homebaked CLT have hosted group picks over the last two years and now runs a weekly litter pick every Saturday at 11:30-12:30, from Kitty’s Launderette on Grasmere Street. Equipment is provided, and please wear weather and activity appropriate clothing and footwear.

In 2024/25 Homebaked CLT-led picks collected a total of 291 bags of litter, with the support of 29 volunteers, contributing 115.5 hours of their time.

Homebaked CLT’s Andrew Wyllie supporting a recent group pick hosted by LFC Foundation

Andrew lives locally with his wife and son. He first got involved with Homebaked CLT as part of a collaborative horticulture project with Homegrown Collective and Myerscough College in 2022. He then responded to a call out for volunteers to join the new litter picking sessions starting in Summer 2023.

Andrew said “I thought this was a worthwhile thing to do, as it was empowering local residents like me to take an active role in cleaning up our streets. I also felt it would help discourage littering, and encourage all of us to take greater pride in our area”

As a regular volunteer, Andrew was well placed to take on the group leader role in Autumn 2024 in a freelance capacity. With the continued support of The National Lottery Community Fund Andrew is now employed by Homebaked CLT, paid in line with the Real Living Wage. As well as leading the weekly group sessions, Andrew supports a number of other groups in the area with the aim of a cleaner and greener neighbourhood.

“I certainly feel more connected with the local community. Leading the litter picks has improved my confidence, and meeting volunteers from a wide range of backgrounds has improved my understanding of the area. The people I have met have shone a positive light on what is being achieved in the area, and shown that when a community comes together real progress can be made.”

Looking forward, Andrew plans to get more volunteers involved to be able to cover a wider area.
